We wrote this short but poignant piece on 25 November 2019 with a man from El Salvador who had journeyed to Brussels with his wife and daughter to try to find medical treatment that would help his daughter to walk again. We met this brave family at the Fedasil Arrival Center, also known as Petit-Château Klein-Kasteeltje. I can recall thinking about the irony of having moved to Brussels from Arizona, not far from the border between Mexico and the United States. In a perfect world, these parents could restore their daughter’s health in El Salvador and not have to leave their home and family. In the next level of perfection, they would be welcome at the Mexico-U.S. border and we might have met in Arizona. I was thankful to meet them in Brussels and hope they will find what they are seeking for their child.
