Who you love is who you are

We wrote this song with residents at the center on 5 March 2018. We wrote this song with residents at the center on 5 March 2018. We posted two pieces of paper for residents to write on. The first lines of the song came from the words of a resident at the top of one of the sheets of paper:

What do you love?
you love to do?
who do you love
and who are you

These words inspired residents fill this page with their responses. When we write songs, we often begin with one page, which becomes filled with words. We review the words and phrases for a theme for a song and begin to shape them into a chorus and verses. It can get confusing as we draw arrows from one line to another to show the order of phrasing for singing. When we get to the point where a song is beginning to reveal itself, we post a second page and begin to write everything out on the new page so it is easier for everyone to see the lyrics.

We took this stanza and copied it on a second page and then translated it into French. We then sang in English and French. It was a short but poignant song.

Unfortunately, I did not write a piece about the process of writing the song.
